Day Out With Thomas

Another of Shane's favorite things is Thomas the Tank Engine. I am pretty sure almost every 3 year old boy has a slight obsession with the cheeky blue engine from Sodor at one time or another.

The Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad has hosted the Day out with Thomas event for years... I remember when Cameron, our friend from church, went. It was all he talked about for weeks. So when I realized that Shane could name every one of the trains that reside on Sodor Island, I knew it was time for that right of passage for Shane too!
Thanks to Nana, Shane had an engineers outfit, hat and all. So we bought our tickets, got our little engineer ready and headed for Boone. Daddy even went to work early that day so that he could come too!

I have to admit, I might get a little more excited about things than Shane does. I am going with the, "It's the anticipation of his reaction," theory, rather than the, "I am really excited to go," thing. When we got there, he got a chance to see Sir Topam Hat. Even though he did well with the dinosaurs, he did not fair so well with Sir Topam Hat. He was really excited when he saw him, but the closer we got the louder he screamed. You know, I've noticed that Nana sure has a knack for taking pictres of me with wierd looks on my face!

Then it was time to ride on Thomas. Shane spent most his time looking out the window at the passing scenery and telling Bop and Nana, over and over and over, that he was really riding Thomas. He could hardly sit still. Then the conductor came around and gave Shane a certificate for riding on Thomas, but he didn't really care about that!

Once the train ride was over, we stood in line for a picture with Thomas. The photographer had a hard time getting Shane's attention because he was too excited and too busy pointing and looking at Thomas! So, it ended up that the pictures that we took were the only ones that turned out, and I think my purse was happy about that one! Then we took the time to let him get a tattoo and play with the train sets that they had brought and set up. It was hard to get him out of that tent! There's nothing like a lesson on sharing at such an event!

This was a very tiring day for our little engineer so we called it a day. I love making memories with our family!

So Shane LOVES dinosaurs, so when we saw the commercials for a live dinosaur show, we knew it would be fun. The only draw back is that Shane has a slight aversion to people in costumes. The bee at Old Country Buffet sends him either hiding under the table or burying himself

Luckily they had a neat little thing a week or so before that you could go and see one of the dinosaurs and watch a how it was made video. It was such an interesting process that even Shane watched the video. Then the big moment came...They were going to bring out the dinosaur.

Out came Baby T (a small T-rex) and Shane loved it.. although, mommy was paying so much attention to Shane's reaction, that she didn't notice that Baby T was heading right for her when he growled at me... I screamed louder that any of the kids... Of course only because I was caught off guard! So we knew that he would love the show.

So we were totally amazed by the show. It looked like the were actually dinosaurs in Wells Fargo Arena. Shane could name all the dinosaurs...of cause it was by Little Foot, Spike, and Cera from the Land Before Time, but it was still cool!
But the highlight of the show was by far Baby and Mama T. Baby T was a "born"comedian!

Shane sure got spoiled this night. He got 2 new shirts and a few fun dino toys! Then he got to go get chocolate chip pancakes.
This will be a night that we won't soon forget!
